When my first kid came along at the ripe old age of 37, we threw an extravagant birthday party just for her on her 17th, after many many frugal parties beforehand. Sooo much money poured into that. She died at the age of 17 from super mega liver failure. We took her to Ascension via Christi St. Joseph Hospital and she died in the nurse's arms eating pea soup AKA street name "chowda." We specially requested the nurse play her favorite show on telly, Henry Danger. Ever since this tragic moment, we never had any sort of big parites for our inferior triplets that came along when I was 56. (My wife is a cougar - guess her age ;) Thank you Classically Abby for helping us reaffirm our need to live on a budget. Godspeed.
Girl, I feel like you can read my mind! My go to saying is "if we did it in the 90s, it's probably fine now." Also, my eldest baby is turning 3 in 6 weeks and I'm of the same opinion! Simple party! Simple decor (printables from Etsy, streamers, balloons balloons balloons, and cheesy birthday banners). DIY cake that the birthday boy will help decorate - likely from a box mix. I love how the 90s were more about spending time with each other than about Pinterest perfect pictures!
Great tips! The part about keeping the food simple is SO true! We went overboard for my son's 2nd birthday and sent guests home with bags of leftover sandwiches!
We keep our birthday parties small! Just family or a couple of friends. My son chose the food for his 3rd birthday (franks and blanks lol) and I did cut up veggies and chips and dips. Was perfect and easy. Love the station idea too!
Love this!! ❤️
