I'm Back And Ready To Share...๐
Hello, friends! Long time no see. If youโve been following me for a while, a three-month break usually only means one thing for me as a content creatorโฆ
Baby Roth #3 is on the way!
We are so excited to be welcoming another baby this summer. We have dreamt of having a big family and we feel so grateful that this pregnancy has been proceeding healthily and with no problems. After having our first two children twenty months apart, we loved their age gap and hoped to have another child within a similar time range. So our third is due exactly twenty months after our second!
How We Found Out We Were Pregnant
When I had my first son, I nursed him for a full year. During that time, I didnโt ovulate at all and after a slow month of weaning, I ovulated the day that I stopped nursing. And thatโs when we conceived our second son! It turns out that this was not a fluke and I was able to use what I know about my body to strategically plan conceiving for a third time. (If you want to know more about my second pregnancy, you can read about it here.)
With my second son, I nursed for a year before weaning, and in the last month I cut out one feed a week. It was a very slow and easy process for both mom and baby, and Iโve learned that I donโt have any huge hormonal dips when I wean this way which helps quite a bit. This time, though, I actually ovulated about two weeks earlier than I expected! During Thanksgiving, I spotted a little and was confused whether it was a period, ovulation spotting, or implantation bleeding. I actually took a pregnancy test which read negative, but it turns out I just took it a couple of days too early.
I had planned to switch OBGYNโs for this pregnancy because I wasnโt happy with my last practice, and so I happened to have a doctorโs appointment scheduled just as a new patient visit - but that morning I took a pregnancy test and lo and behold, I was expecting! The line was EXTREMELY dark, and I was confused because I thought I had ovulated two weeks later than I actually did. But it turned out I was about five weeks along rather than three. My doctor laughed because we have termed our conception technique โThe Roth Method,โ as I havenโt had a period in over three years due to nursing and pregnancy, and Iโm able to conceive after nursing but before I resume normal periods.
I actually felt very grateful that I was further along than I initially thought. Anything to make the first trimester go faster, am I right?
Now, before I got pregnant with my second son, I felt more than ready to have another baby. Perhaps it was because I only had one so I didnโt know what it would feel like to manage two, but I couldnโt wait to have another baby! This time around, I definitely had some mixed feelings. It didnโt feel like that long ago that I had been pregnant and that I had dealt with the first three months postpartum! It wasnโt so much about having a third child - that I felt confident I could handle - but I struggle with the first trimester fatigue and morning sickness and it can be really demoralizing for me. On the other hand, I really knew I wanted our children to be close in age. Thank God, I worked hard between pregnancies to feel healthy and strong, so I didnโt feel weak entering my third pregnancy. I just had to wrap my head around reentering that exhaustion and sick stage again - but as Iโm coming out of it now, I always have to remember itโs a finite period of time.
What Pregnancy #3 Has Been Like
This pregnancy has been similar in many ways to my first two! Just as with my other pregnancies, I have had intense fatigue. I needed to take a nap every single day and then go to bed at 8:30 PM. This pregnancy, I didnโt have the luxury of my older son napping, so I really leaned on my parents to help by watching him while I slept and my baby napped.
I also had a similar experience with morning sickness this time around - it can be a bit of a challenge throughout the day, but for the most part, I can manage it. I definitely have my moments. But it really hits me at night before I go to bed, which is part of why I go to sleep so early. Diclegis was a lifesaver for me during this pregnancy, although after I stopped taking it, my body had to readjust to not having the sleep aid at night. I had a couple nights of restlessness, but now things are back to normal!
It also turns out that my cravings and aversions are exactly the same this time as they were in previous pregnancies! I like fresh fruit such as clementines and grapes, cheese for the bright flavor, and toast which is easy to get down. Meat is pretty much a no-go, for the most part.
The biggest difference for me this time around was that I simply could not overeat. If I did, I would feel even worse than before. Because of that, I donโt think I gained any weight in the first trimester which is not the norm for me!
And The Big News Isโฆ
We are having a little GIRL! I absolutely love being a boy mom and I thought we might have another boy, but after two sons, we are so excited to bring a little baby girl into the world. I have to wrap my head around not raising another boy, but I am so grateful and I canโt wait to teach her all the beauty of femininity and womanhood.
So, Iโm officially BACK and excited to share more thoughts, tips, and tricks on being a first-gen SAHM! I canโt wait to hear from you all. Drop a comment below!
So glad you're back and with such wonderful news! Congratulations to you and your growing family! โค๏ธ
Wow, weโve been in exactly the same boat for the past 3 years - my eldest son is 3, my second son is 20 months after him, and Iโm also pregnant and just out of the first trimester with a baby girl! Congratulations and Iโm sure youโre just as excited (and shocked!) as I am to welcome a girl into the family
